What Manchester City Champions League ban would mean for Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham

Manchester City have been banned from competing in European competition for the next two seasons by The independent Adjudicatory Chamber of UEFA's Club Financial Control Body (CFCB) in February. The club also were hit with a €30 million fine, as they were found to have committed "serious breaches" of Financial Fair Play (FFP) while submitting inaccurate information to UEFA between 2012 and 2016. They were also found to have "failed to cooperate" with the investigation. A few days later, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) have confirmed they have received an appeal from Manchester City. The coronavirus outbreak could have helped City with their appeal. They could still find themselves playing in next season's Champions League, even if the Court of Arbitration for Sport upholds UEFA's ban. A statement released by the court on the appeal being lodged said that 'it is not possible' to say when the matter will be resolved. Depending on how long the process takes, they may have to be admitted for 2020-21. City could ask for a stay of the ban until future season even if they lose their appeal. However, eight of the Premier League’s current top 10 have reportedly launched a joint bid to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to prevent Manchester City’s Champions League ban being stayed. Rivals fear that City could ask to have their sentence delayed while the appeal is ongoing and that could see Pep Guardiola’s side compete in next season’s Champions League. But why Premier League rivals bidding to CAS and what the ban means for the likes of Tottenham, Chelsea and Manchester United. The potential consequences for City could be players and Guardiola's departures. However, that's nothing but speculation. City sit second in the table and they're almost certain to finish there, which should give them a spot in the Champions League. However, due to the ban, whichever team finishes fifth will be given a spot in Europe's top competition. Currently Manchester United, Sheffield United, Tottenham and Wolves are competing for the spot. They now don't have to finish in the top four to get what they want. City beat Real Madrid 2-1 in their first clash of the last-16 stage tie and it's certainly possible that they could win the trophy. Guardiola's side could become the first team in Champions League history to lift the trophy and be physically unable to defend it. Source: Daily Mail
