"What I've been told is" - Alasdair Gold issues big update on Reguilon's Spurs future

Tottenham Hotspur journalist Alasdair Gold has been discussing Sergio Reguilon’s future at the north London club. One question that came up in the video posted by Gold was if it would be possible for Real Madrid to activate their buy-back clause on Reguilon and take him back to the Bernabeu in January, to which Gold gave this reply. He said: “The answer is no, as far as I’m aware. What I’ve been told is that Real Madrid, [with the] buy-back clause, have the opportunity to buy him for this certain fee, which is around £15 million more than Spurs paid for him in the summer. “But they can only do so in [the] 2021 summer and 2022 summer – and obviously, it’s then down to the player to agree to if he wants to move back. So no, as far as I’m aware, January is not an issue, which is fantastic, because he’s been superb and hopefully, he’ll want to stick around. I’m hearing he’s loving life at Tottenham Hotspur, so let’s hope it stays that way.” Spurs signed the Spaniard on a five-year deal from Real Madrid for an undisclosed fee in the summer. It was also reported that a £27.5 million buy-back clause was inserted in Reguilon’s deal.
