West Ham United are on the brink of securing the signing of Kalvin Phillips from Manchester City.
The English midfielder, a frequent topic of discussion in recent months, hasn't been able to establish himself as a regular starter under Pep Guardiola. Despite joining City from Leeds United for a reported £42 million 18 months ago, Phillips is seeking a new challenge.
In a bid to secure more playing time and secure a spot in Gareth Southgate's England squad for the upcoming European Championship, the 28-year-old has garnered interest from various clubs, including Newcastle, who are in need of a replacement for the suspended Sandro Tonali.
However, according to The Athletic's David Ornstein, it appears that David Moyes' side have emerged as the preferred destination. While the deal is yet to be officially confirmed, the London club is poised to finalize a loan agreement with an option to buy at the end of the season for the midfielder.
Phillips' contract with Manchester City runs until 2028. Thus far, the 28-years-old has contributed one assist in 31 games across all competitions during his time at the Etihad Stadium.
