"We hope": Saudi official believes they can lure Manchester City star for summer transfer

Saudi official Hafez Al-Medlej has issued a warning stating that the country is determined to attract top European football stars during the upcoming summer transfer window. One of the players mentioned is Bernardo Silva, who currently plays for Manchester City.

In recent weeks, there have been several reports linking European players with moves to clubs in the Saudi Pro League. Notable transfers include Karim Benzema's move to Al-Ittihad from Real Madrid and N'Golo Kante's transfer along with Ruben Neves' rumored move to Al Hilal.

Additionally, there are speculations surrounding Chelsea players such as Edouard Mendy, Kalidou Koulibaly, and Hakim Ziyech potentially joining SPL clubs.

While Saudi clubs have historically targeted players towards the end of their careers, there seems to be a shift in focus towards recruiting prime stars. This strategic approach aims to elevate the profile of the SPL, with Bernardo Silva being a key target in this process according to Hafez Al-Medlej, who is the marketing committee of the Asian Football Confederation.

“We do not sign players who are finished. Al Hilal will sign Ruben Neves, who is 26 years old and who Barcelona wanted. And Benzema arrived at Al-Ittihad after winning a Ballon d’Or at Real Madrid. We hope that Bernardo Silva arrives from Manchester City, and we should also start working on the signing of Mohamed Salah,” the Saudi official said on the newspaper Koura (via SPORT).
