Watford V Liverpool: Preview and Possible XI

Premier League: Matchweek 13

Venue: Vicarage Road

Date: Saturday, 24 November

Kick-off time: 3 PM GMT

Liverpool are back in Premier League action on Saturday and face a potentially tricky away game against Watford. The Reds begin this run towards the festive period just two points behind Manchester City and will be looking to reel in their rivals before the end of the calendar year.

Watford will have Adalberto Penaranda available after the forward received his work permit. Etienne Capoue returns from suspension, while Will Hughes (hip) and Sebastian Prodl are available. Daryl Janmaat and Tom Cleverley are close to returning after injury. Liverpool playmaker Adam Lallana has been ruled out with a minor injury problem but midfielder Jordan Henderson (hamstring) is ready to play.

There has never been a goalless draw in the 22 top-flight meetings between Watford and Liverpool.

Watford will be seeking to improve their Premier League record against teams starting the day in the top two places, having lost 15 of their last 17 such fixtures. Their victories in that spell were against Chelsea in September 1999 and Arsenal in January 2017.

Mohamed Salah has been directly involved in six goals in his two PL matches against Watford, with five strikes and one assist. Of those who have played a minimum of two matches against a single opponent in the competition, Luis Suarez is the only player with a better goal involvement-per-match ratio, with 3.5 against Cardiff City.

Roberto Firmino has been involved in seven goals in his last five PL matches against Watford, with four strikes and three assists. He scored and set up a goal in the 3-3 draw at Vicarage Road last season.
