Wakefield Trinity send warning to Super League rivals after winger rejects new deal

Wakefield Trinity will demand a fee for winger Lee Kershaw if he leaves the club at the end of this season. Trinity coach Chris Chester has admitted that he is surprised by the 21-year-old's decision to reject a new contract.

Kaershaw has scored two tries - including one on his debut against Leeds Rhinos - in six appearances last season. He has now rejected a new contract with Trinity. “We have made him an improved offer on his 2020 contract and he came back fairly quickly with a ‘no thank you’," said Chester. “That took us a bit by surprise, especially as there’s a fee involved. He is still at that age where should he go somewhere else we can get a fee for him, because he has been in our system all this time. "He wants to look at the open market, but clubs will have to bear that [the fee] in mind.” Kershaw played for Keighley Albion and Eastmoor Dragons before joining Trinity’s academy and had spells on loan at Oldham in 2018 and 2019, touching down 16 times in 27 games.
