Virgil van Dijk reveals his Liverpool ambitions - and his outlook on life

Liverpool star Virgil van Dijk says he is hoping to be around at the club for long enough to be considered a legend. "Maybe as a legend at Liverpool," he replied when asked how he'd like to be remembered at Liverpool in a wide-ranging interview with BBC Sport. "Obviously that's something at the moment that's come to my mind. I want to achieve great things. We have a fantastic squad. We have all the tools, (but) obviously we have to do it. I'm 27, hopefully, I can play if I'm still enjoying it until at least 36. After that, you can't really play at the highest level anymore, so you have to enjoy it. "Sometimes in training, we do youngies against oldies, and I'm with the oldies. We have so many young guys, we have Ki-Jana Hoever who is 17, and I'm getting really old! You have to enjoy every bit of it." "I like to keep everything simple," he said. "That's how it was back in the day and that's the way it should be. Why make things difficult? Why have tough times when it's not necessary? Why be negative when you can enjoy life and be positive? That's something I learned over the years. "I try to be positive as I can. Life is too short to be negative."
