Virgil van Dijk to play great role in Matthijs de Ligt’s Premier League move, says Dimitar Berbatov

Dimitar Berbatov believes Matthijs de Ligt will be speaking to Virgil van Dijk about the prospect of a move to the Premier League. De Ligt has established himself as one of Europe’s most promising talents following an incredible 12 months for Ajax and attracted several clubs, including Liverpool. Barcelona, Manchester United, Manchester City, Arsenal and PSG have expressed an interest in the Netherlands international. Reportedly, the main destinations for the 19-year-old are Barcelona and Liverpool. He has told his agent Mino Railoa to seal a move with the Catalan club but he’s also hinted at a possible move to Anfield to join up with international teammate Van Dijk. Former United striker Berbatov believes that Van Dijk could play a major role in De Ligt’s Premier League move. "One player I would love to see at Old Trafford is Ajax defender, Matthijs de Ligt, although I know every big club in Europe is after him," Berbatov told Betfair. "I watched him play against Real Madrid and he looks the real deal – so confident and assured for a player of his age." According to Berbatov, Van Dijk will be giving De Ligt advice on the positives and negatives of joining an English club. "Having his international team-mate Virgil Van Dijk already in the Premier League could be a boost for any English team chasing De Ligt," Berbatov added. "The Liverpool man will be telling him how good the league is and that can make a real difference to where you choose to go."
