Virgil Van Dijk on the new season: We are going to try and do even better than last year

Liverpool star Virgil Van Dijk says they should respect the achievement of Manchester City last season and try to be even better in upcoming one to finally bring back the EPL trophy to Anfield. Dutch international, who's completed a move to the Merseyside club in 2018, has made a massive impact this season to become a candidate for Ballon d'Or with Lionel Messi. Van Dijk's impressive performances helped Liverpool to finish the 2018/19 campaign with 97 points, most for EPL runners-up in the history and win the Champions League title. Ahead of the new season, 28-year-old center back told BBC: "Every Liverpool fan dreams of the Premier League. Everyone is waiting for it. We were so close last year, unfortunately it didn't happen but the only thing we can do is go for it. "There are so many games. Our December period is a madness, basically. "Last season we lost only one game, we did everything we could but City were just a little bit better than us. "We have to respect that as well. We are going to try and do even better than last year." Source - BBC
