Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola is eager to reward skipper Vincent Kompany with a new deal. City are set to offer Kompany a one-year extension so he can prove his fitness.

The Etihad boss said: “Yeah, we’re considering it, we’re talking about. I’d like that.
“He’s our captain, 11 years here. We saw his huge personality [in the 2-1 win over Liverpool. The only problem with Vincent is his injury problems.”
Asked if Kompany remained City’s best defender when fit, Guardiola said: “One against one? Absolutely.
