Van Dijk HITS OUT at referee for not awarding Liverpool a free-kick after Napoli’s goal

Virgil van Dijk hits out at referee for failing to award Liverpool a free-kick after Napoli’s goal in the first half of the Champions League group stage match.  Dries Mertens scored to give the Italian side a half-time lead, but before that Belgian striker was noticed colliding with Van Dijk, who felt pain and was not able to go back to defense. Referee Carlos del Cerro Grande got a check by VAR, but didn’t change his decision, giving Napoli the goal.  “Yeah I’m not going down for no reason,” Van Dijk told beIN Sports after the match (via LiverpoolECHO). “I won the ball and don’t think he wanted to challenge for the ball. “He touched me, I think it is a foul. The referee, I think, didn’t have his best day today. That’s what it is.”  Liverpool are now facing a tough match against Red Bull in Salzburg, as Merseyside club could qualify for Round of 16 in case they don’t lose to Austrian champions.
