Arsenal won their first Premier League game of the season with a 1-0 score against Newcastle.
Now the Gunners are preparing to host Burnley on Saturday, August 17.
Ahead of the game Unai Emery has given a press-conference where he spoke about team news, transfer updates and so on.
On a first home game of the season.
“It’s the first match at home this year and we’re looking forward to meeting with our supporters in the Emirates. We’re preparing with big work, we’re enthusiastic for each moment this week to prepare. It’s going to be difficult this year, starting at home against Burnley. They’re in a very good moment, they won 3-0 and had an amazing pre-season. They are a strong team with a clear structure. Last year against us they played 3-5-2 and changed, I think they will play 4-4-2.
“They are a team with a good coach, experienced here in England, and in the Premier League they are playing, working, doing a good way. Saturday we need all the best for us individually and collectively. Above all we need to impose our gameplan and be confident, be with our supporters, feeling good to try to impose our idea. We have a lot of things to be positive about.”
Unai Emery reveals if the new signings are ready.
“Each player is different. After Newcastle and this week the players are working well. We can decide to choose different options in each position. Really I think we need to be competitive. We need different options to decide who is better each match. The new players, the players who were with us last year, the young players, we can achieve our way each match with confidence.”
On Mesut Ozil and Sead Kolasinac.
“They came back training with us on Tuesday, they came to start training with us, we had it off. Mesut Ozil is a little sick, he didn’t train yesterday. Each training gives us good information, different options with them. Am I pleased to have them back? Of course. I can’t respond the same. If they are training consistently each day with normal work I am going to decide and achieve the best solution each moment. It’s positive they are with us now. ”
On Nicolas Pepe.
“I am going to decide tomorrow because now is a small difference for my decision about the player. It depends how they will be tomorrow in the training. Pepe is training with us, improving with us, knowing us. He’s understanding our style little by little and physically getting better. He is more close to help us at the beginning [of the match].”
More on Ozil and Kolasinac: Emery answers to a question if he is confident that Ozil and Kolasinac are mentally ready to play?
“Yes, 100 per cent. Their mentality is focused on us, for training and the match. My focus is to be positive and think the players are 100 per cent with their mind here. I want to help them be normal with us, training, thinking and above all taking the focus for each match. “
On Newcastle win.
“Really, we need to improve. We were happy with that three points, we played seriously but I want to improve on each position for us. Better build-up, better progress with the combinations, safer each moment when we pass the ball between us. When we progress with the ball like a team we can find better positions and solutions in the attacking third. We worked in a way with very big commitment with each player. We need to and can improve with the same players and other players who were out of that match. First my idea is to get better like a strong team, being competitive in each position. We work and stay confident, some players need more with them. After that victory we can have confidence and three points, working and thinking of things to improve next match.”
On the away clean sheet.
“We can achieve our way with different circumstances. Really the clean sheet is important but the most important is to win. If we can win scoring a lot of goals better, if we can have a clean sheet each match it’s perfect. My idea is to create a big personality, a big idea thinking we’re an offensive team and after being strong defensively. We worked very well that match, above all defensively we worked very compact. The balance, we must improve.”
How physical will Saturday be?
“Really it’s going to be a very physical match. We need that adaptation, to be strong and an important gameplan with our structure and tactical positioning. They’re very strong with the duels.”
On Lacazette and Aubameyang duo.
“Last year they played a lot of matches together, Auba right or left as a winger. His capacity can help us this year. They are strikers but above all I think we can use them in different situations.”
