Unai Emery has identified Getafe star Djene as a top target ahead of the summer transfer window to solve Arsenal’s defensive issues.
Emery privately accepts he needs to bolster his defensive options this summer, with Shkodran Mustafi failing to perform throughout the season and linked with a departure.
According to Marca, Togo international Djene has been identified as the player to solve Arsenal’s defensive problems ahead of the 2019-2020 campaign.
Due to the 27-year-old’s performances, Getafe climbed to fourth in the La Liga table, just ten points behind Spanish giants Real Madrid.
Earlier in the season, the Getafe president confirmed they had received offers from Spanish and foreign clubs for Djene last summer. Angel Torres told Cadena Cope: ‘He wishes to remain playing in La Liga, and we have promised his agent that if a suitable offer comes in from a Spanish club, we will negotiate. ‘He has a release clause of €35m, but we could be open to selling him for slightly less.’
It is claimed Emery has personally scouted Djene this season and has been impressed enough to advise Arsenal to make a move.
