Unai Emery explained why he subbed Ozil and provided injury update on Danny Welbeck

We know they are a competitive team. For us, we were continuing to take risks when we were drawing and conceded chances. We are not happy with the point but recognise they work well.
On what was said at half-time
We spoke about how it was difficult to break their lines defensively and their transition was very good. We didn’t want the second goal but our idea changed a little because we needed to take more risks We needed good balance in the transition. The team played with character, we had chances to draw level before and also for continuing to look to win the match.

Today we need the goalkeeper when we were taking risks and giving them options on the transition moment. His performance was good for us.
On subbing Iwobi at half-time
Tactically it was a change. I was thinking of having more possession inside. We did sometimes good in this situation and we creed chances to score. But they worked well defensively.

He has a big commitment with us and also character. His performance with his quality is good for us. We need everybody. For me and for the team, we need more consistency. I think the most important thing is to build with confidence and creating little by little with very big work. I think we are doing it and Xhaka is doing this also.

I decided we had two players on the bench like Mkhitaryan and Aaron, attacking midfielders. I decided for that reason.
Emery on Welbeck
Danny’s injury is big. We spoke with him yesterday and today. We support him. I think he is going to come with us in not a long time.
Was the ankle broken?
Yes. He did the operation on Friday.
