Unai Emery drops a hint of Mesut Ozil plan amid claims he could leave Arsenal

Arsenal boss Unai Emery has made it clear Mesut Ozil isn’t in his long-term plans. The Gunners are short of funds this January, and it appears Emery has looked at Ozil's £350,000-a-week salary as something that can be cut from the wage bill. But Emery hinted that despite reports he’d rather have the cash for new players than Ozil in his squad, he might not be looking to move him on. Speaking to Sky Sports, Emery revealed an approach he takes with certain players. "At certain times, you have to provoke friction with footballers," said Emery. "From that friction, you can get something more out of them, something from inside, a greater sense of ambition or maybe even a complaint – a complaint regarding the team can be positive. "As a manager, you have to be careful because that friction can break a relationship. But I believe in always looking for more, both individually and collectively, with conversations which are comfortable but also with conversations which are less comfortable."
