UEFA Nations League: 20 facts you need to know about England, Spain, France and Italy

The Newly-founded UEFA nations League started on Thursday, with 55 European nations competing in four leagues. Here are facts you need to know about national teams.

ENGLAND

Ben Chilwell is the first player to make his England debut at his current club's home ground since Paul Scholes in May 1997 (vs South Africa at Old Trafford). Marcus Rashford has scored in consecutive England games for the first time in his career. England have lost just one of their last 19 home internationals played at venues other than Wembley (W15 D3), a 0-1 friendly defeat vs Spain at Old Trafford in 2007. Danny Welbeck is making his first start for @England since March 26th 2016 vs Germany – 899 days ago. Marcus Rashford’s opener (assisted by Luke Shaw) was the first England goal scored and assisted by two Manchester United players since November 2012, when Ashley Young assisted Danny Welbeck against Sweden.

SPAIN

Marco Asensio is the second player to assist three goals in a game for Spain in the last 10 years (Nolito vs Liechtenstein in 2016). Stellar. Saul Ñiguez has scored two goals in his three starts for Spain, with both coming under Luis Enrique Spain have won all the five games played in Elche, scoring 2,2 goal per game and didn’t concede in four of this five games.

Croatia

Italy have made 167 passes in the first half against Portugal: the last time the Azzurri have less was back in October 2016 against Spain.

The Netherlands

Georginio Wijnaldum completed all of his 36 passes for the Netherlands v France and made more recoveries (7) than any other Netherlands player. For the first time in 49 years (1969, 0-1 v England), the Netherlands have lost a game (excl. pens) against the reigning World Champions. The Netherlands have conceded more than one goal in a game for the first time in 11 matches, with the previous time also v France (4-0 defeat).

France

Paul Pogba has failed only 9 of his 102 passes against the Netherlands (68/76 in the opposite half). He made 115 touches, more than any other player on the pitch. Olivier Giroud has scored his 32nd goal for France, overtaking Zinedine Zidane (31) and becoming the only 4th best goalscorer in France national team's history. Kylian Mbappé is involved in 10 goals with France in 2018 (8 goals, 2 assists), three more than any other French player.
