UEFA to introduce VAR in Champions League this season
According to recent reports, UEFA will introduce VAR in Champions League this season.
Initially, Video assistant referees were planned to be introduced in Champions League from 2019/20 season, however UEFA will give the go-ahead during the meeting in Dublin on December 3, The Times understands.
This means the system will be used from round of 16 matches, that will start on February.
The main reason for this decision is understood to be the latest incident during Manchester City vs Shakhtar Donetsk match, when referee Viktor Kassai has wrongly given a penalty to Pep Guardiola’s team after Raheem Sterling as fell over as he kicked the ground.
