Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt has emerged as a target for Europe's top clubs including Manchester United and Barcelona after a stunning season with the Eredivisie side .
Barcelona have already agreed a £75million deal to sign de Ligt’s team-mate Frenkie de Jong and had hoped to bag the defender in a double deal. However, the Catalans will have to sell the likes of Philippe Coutinho to fund the move and that’s created a window of opportunity for Manchester United and Liverpool.
And, after winning the league title with Ajax on Sunday, de Ligt has admitted he’s held discussions to leave the club.
Asked if he’d made his last appearance for the club, de Ligt replied: "I don’t know yet. There have been conversations, but there is still no agreement."
De Ligt is expected to cost in the region of £80m, meaning he would break the world transfer record paid for a defender.
