Tottenham to offer £1k-a-week star new contract

Tottenham are reportedly set to offer new contract to centre-back Japhet Tanganga. Eric Dier signed a new deal this week after an encouraging month under head coach Jose Mourinho, who’s been using him predominantly as a centre-back. And as The Evening Standard report, Tanganga is the next player the North London club are looking to sign up. The 21-year-old's emergence has been a huge plus in an otherwise fairly poor season for Spurs, who are seventh in the Premier League and won’t be playing Champions League football next season. Tanganga's contract is set to expire next summer and it was causing some anxiety among some Tottenham fans, given the potential he showed earlier in the campaign. However,  The Standard claim that the Lilywhites are ‘close’ to signing him up to a new contract, which would include a ‘significant’ pay hike on his £1k-a-week salary. With Tottenham potentially losing Danny Rose this summer, and money looking fairly tight, Tanganga, who can also play centre-back, could save chairman Daniel Levy a lot of money in the transfer market.
