TOP 5 players Manchester United should never have let go in the post-Alex Ferguson era

Manchester United have spent close to a staggering £1billion on transfers since Sir Alex Ferguson left the club at the end of the 2012-13 Premier League season. However, it is no secret that the Red Devils have not exactly been a bastion of stability. Despite splashing out huge transfer fees, United have found themselves slowly slipping out of contention for titles. They sold a bunch as well, but have not come anywhere near challenging for the title. Here are five players who should never have left the club. Romelu Lukaku is not included here because of his desire to leave United. Ander Herrera Ander Herrera was excellent in the transition phases, winning the ball and at breaking up oppositions attacks. Now, United are clearly missing someone with that dynamism. His absence was combined by the fact he has not been replaced. Jonny Evans Evans was a more than competent defender with bags of experience under his belt. The player formed a great partnership with Harry Maguire last season. United’s main concerns are not in the backline, the Northern Irishman was unfairly tossed to the side while they preserved with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling. Daley Blind Blind is a committed and intelligent player and can play at centre-half, full-back and in midfield. He can take set pieces, he can cross, he can pass very well and he does not lose possession very easily. Memphis Depay Depay had a shocking time at Old Trafford, but he showed he had skill and ability. He had an eye for goal, but it just never clicked at Manchester United. Given the injury crisis that is currently besieging United’s forward line, as well as their desire to attack with pace, Depay would certainly fit right back into this team and could ideally play through the middle as well as on the left. Marouane Fellaini You may be surprised to see Fellaini in this list but his brutish style of play and general underhanded, he was viewed as the person of the mystical “United Way”. Despite the fact that he was a much-maligned character, David Moyes, Van Gaal and Mourinho all used him fairly regularly and in some cases, he was central to their plans. Fans were happy to see his move to China, but without Lukaku, Herrera and perfect replacement it could have been better to have Fellaini at the club.
