The new year will be a great sports year as some of the major sport events 2022 are expected to take place. Fans will surely have their 2022 calendars all pinned with the biggest sports events, mostly the international competitions, that are known so far.

Which are the must watch sporting events?  2022 will be a fully packed year which will hold plenty of 'once-in-a-lifetime' events. Of course, not every event can be listed here, although we have tried to include the most anticipated ones from all over the world.

The 2022 Winter Olympics is one of the biggest events in 2022, which was held in China across 3 zones: Beijing, Yanqing, and Zhangjiakou between February 4-20. The Opening and Closing Ceremonies will also take place in Beijing.

There were a total of 109 medal events across the following 15 sports - Alpine Skiing, Biathlon, Bobsled, Cross-Country Skiing, Curling, Figure Skating, Freestyle Skiing, Hockey, Luge, Nordic Combined, Short Track, Skeleton, Ski Jumping, Snowboarding, Speed Skating.

The Six Nations championship is one of the major sporting events in the 2022 international Rugby Union calendar.

It is an annual competition between six European sides: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. In the current format, each team plays every other team once. The winners of the Six Nations Championship are also known as the European Champions.

Super Bowl LVI was held in California's SoFi Stadium, which opened in September of 2020. Next year will mark the 13th Super Bowl played in California.

Super Bowl 2022 halftime show welcomed Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Dr.Dre, Mary J.Blige and Kendrick Lamar.

The 2022 IIHF World Championship will be hosted by Finland from 13 to 29 May 2022, in the cities of Helsinki and Tampere.

Here are the automatic qualifiers after the cancellation of the 2021 IIHF lower division championships: Finland, Belarus, Canada, Denmark, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Norway, ROC(Russia), Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, United States.

UEFA Champions League Final 2022 is one of the most anticipated football games in the world. This will be the final match of the 2021–22 UEFA Champions League, which will be played at the Stade de France Stadium in Paris, France.

The final was originally scheduled to be played at the Krestovsky Stadium in Saint Petersburg, Russia. The winners of the Final will earn the opportunity to play against the winners of the 2021–22 UEFA Europa League in the 2022 UEFA Super Cup.

One thing about Americans is the way they love basketball so passionately. However, NBA is watched not only by Americans but by almost every sports lover from all over the world.

Every season of the NBA has a winner and the method of deciding the winner is rather interesting. The winners meet in the best of 3 division NBA finals. After these matches, the team with the best record for the season qualifies for the final of the NBA season.

The other top two teams still compete for the second team in the finals in this best of 3 semifinal matches. After the semifinals, the final is played in June and then the winner of the NBA season is decided.  

 

8. Wimbledon

Tennis lovers will have their calendars fully packed as some of the most major tournaments are about to be opened.

Excitingly, Wimbledon organizers have now confirmed that there will be a full schedule on the Middle Sunday in 2022.

Previously, it has been kept blank and used only in exceptional circumstances, with the second Monday of the tournament packed with all men’s and women’s fourth-round matches, known affectionately as ‘Manic Monday’. However, it will be put full order of play for every day of 2022, which will allow much more audience to attend!    

 

9. US Open

Another highly anticipated event for tennis fans, as all of their favourite stars are set to compete for another year.

As the fourth and final Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open is a great way to experience great play. International stars such as Novak Djokovic and defending men's champion Daniil Medvedev, and women's champ Emma Raducanu will be dazzling the crowds as tennis fever hits NYC during the two-week event.  

 

10. FIFA 2022 World Cup

After 4 years of waiting, the biggest footballing carnival on earth is set to take place in Qatar next year – in 2022, from November 21 until December 18.

This is the first time ever that a world cup will be held in winter in the Northern Hemisphere. However, since Qatar experiences severely hot temperatures during the summer months, the decision to host the world cup in November and December has been taken to ease the players as well as the visitors who will travel for the world cup.
