Timo Werner opens up on private chats with Frank Lampard

Chelsea's new signing Timo Werner has opened up about the impact Frank Lampard had on his decision to sign for the Blues this summer. Werner will join Chelsea this week after the Blues forked out £53million for his services. The German striker was heavily expected to sign for Liverpool before the Reds pulled out of a deal to sign him. Reds officials believed that the £53m release clause was simply too much and they pulled out of the race. According to German outlet BILD, the Chelsea boss used Petr Cech as an interpreter in his calls to the RB Leipzig forward. Werner has now opened up on the talks he had with Chelsea officials - namely Lampard - and claimed they were key factors in his decision. "The discussions with those responsible at Chelsea were so good that I ultimately chose Chelsea," Werner said. "The coach in particular stood behind me and really wanted me to know that I was going to Chelsea, so I can feel just as comfortable as here. In the conversations with me, the coach often emphasized how much he wanted me, how much he valued me as a person. "Of course it's hard to give up an oasis of wellbeing like the one I've had in Leipzig for years, but you can only get ahead in a career if you take the next step. Otherwise I always stay in Leipzig, this season was the crossroads. I have decided on something new and hope that it will continue like this." Source: Express
