A timeline of trouble at Manchester United: Paul Pogba

Paul Pogba is at the centre of attention again. Jose Mourinho confirmed he has removed Paul Pogba from Manchester United’s vice-captaincy duty. Pogba was rested for the Carabao Cup third round defeat to Derby and watched on from the stands. Mourinho told Sky Sports: “The only truth is that I made the decision of Paul not to be the second captain anymore. “But no fall-out. No problems at all. The same person that decides Paul is not the second captain anymore was exactly the same person that decides that Paul was the second captain, myself. “I am the manager, I can make these decisions, no fall-out at all, no problems at all, just one decision that I don’t have to explain.” France star was signed by the Red Devils from Juventus for a then-world record £89million in August 2016. Shortly after Mourinho joined the club. The relationship between player and manager has been heavily scrutinized recently.

Pogba is linked with a move to Barcelona before the end of the transfer window, but Mourinho says: "I have never been so happy with (Pogba) as I am now."
September 2018 Pogba is thought by some observers to be questioning Mourinho's tactics after the 1-1 home draw against Wolves by saying United should "attack, attack, attack". Reports emerge before the EFL Cup tie against Derby that Mourinho told Pogba in front of the squad he will never captain United again as he does not embody what the club is about.
