N’Golo Kante is on the radar of Real Madrid and Inter Milan. The Chelsea midfielder might yet choose to stay at Stamford Bridge for several more years, perhaps until the end of his career, but talk of a potential exit will have Frank Lampard considering possible alternatives.
Declan Rice is one of them. He was heavily linked with his former club throughout the summer and West Ham United will not let him go without a fight. The youngster is equally capable of pushing forward and playing incisive passes. And his ability to fill in at centre-back if needed only makes him a more appealing option.
Denis Zakaria could also fit the bill. The 23-year-old has been linked with Chelsea and Manchester United after impressing in the German top flight. A holding midfielder who likes to carry the ball forward, and an accomplished tackler.
Wilfried Ndidi has established himself as an important player in a Leicester team that very nearly breached the Premier League’s top four last season. He is still only 23, too, and has been linked with the likes of Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain, as well as Chelsea. The Nigerian is a more overtly defensive-minded midfielder, one who tends to venture forward less.
