Three defenders Mourinho should sign to improve Tottenham

Jose Mourinho's teams are known for having solid defence and even though he is being criticised for "parking the bus", Portuguese manager is said to like building his teams on reliable foundations. Here are three defenders Spurs boss could sign to strengthen the club's defence, according to The Boot Room. Nathan Ake Bournemouth centre-back has recorded a string of outstanding performances for his side and has quite a few admirers. Chelsea are reportedly leading the race for Ake but if they do not succeed, Spurs should look at moving in. The 24-year-old is an established player for his national team and is strong in the air and comfortable with the ball at his feet. He has the advantage of Premier League experience as well, so that he would not need to adapt.

Dayot Upamecano

RB Leipzig centre-back has also recorded an impressive campaign for the German club this season.  Upamecano has played a huge role of his club's outstanding performance as they have the joint-most clean sheets in the Bundesliga this season. He is just 21, but owns a high level of football intelligence and reads the game very well. His contract with his current club expires in 2021, so Mourinho's side could look at sealing a pre-contract agreement.

Kalidou Koulibaly

Napoli's Koulibaly is considered as one of the best defenders in the football world, and recently is placed 24th in the Ballon D’or shortlist. Daily Mail have reported that Mourinho has targeted a £90 million move for the 28-year-old. Even though it would be a enormous investment, Koulibaly would drastically improve the Tottenham defence.
