FA Cup have confirmed that replays will return up, including the fourth round for the upcoming season, according to
The Independent.
Replays were previously omitted from the football calendar last season due to the shortened timeframe for matches, but they are now firmly back to football.
The FA stated, "Replays will be mandatory in all rounds of the qualifying competition and the competition proper from the first round proper up to and including the fourth round proper"
Heading into the 2020/21 FA Cup, Arsenal were holders of the trophy but it took extra-time for them to win Newcastle United 2-0 at the Emirates Stadium in the third round. However, in the competition’s original format, the meeting would instead have been decided via a replay at St James’ Park.
Such decision could mostly affect Chelsea and Tottenham as they also attempt in both Champions League and Europa Conference League respectively.
Meanwhile, the Gunners’ calendar is way lighter throughout the next season as they have missed out on European football.
