The bizarre reason David Moyes pulled the plug on Thiago Alcantara transfer to Manchester United

Thigo Alcantara is set to leave Bayern Munich this summer, after playing seven years with Germany champions. The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with the move Liverpool, while Manchester United have also joined the race to sign the midfielder. Bayern have valued one of their attractive players at around €30million, however, Jurgen Klopp's side are reluctant to face the transfer fee as they could have the chance to land the Spanish international for free, with the player nearing the end of his contract next year. Meanwhile, the Red Devils have completed the transfer of Donny van de Beek and are said to be carefully monitoring Thiago situation. But this is not the first time United show interest in signing the Spaniard, with the midfielder being close to making a move to Old Trafford seven years ago during David Moyes' coaching spell at the club. The Scot manager was eager to make a number of vital signings, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Cesc Fabregas, while he cooled down his interest in Thiago who was playing for Barcelona at that time. According to ESPN, Moyes didn't know enough about the player and ended up missing his top targets and raiding his former club, Everton.
