Chelsea dealt Dries Mertens transfer blow, as the Belgian decided to sign a new contract with Napoli. According to Sky Italia, the 33-year-old has agreed to extend his contract with the club until 2022.
The Blues had been linked with the Belgian in January he is reported to be about to put pen to paper on a new deal.
So who are the other free transfers which Frank Lampard could target as a Mertens replacement?
AFC Bournemouth winger Ryan Fraser is out of contract and is expected to be snapped up by a bigger club. He has real pace and can play along the front line of the Chelsea.
Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana, 32, has been a useful back-up option for the Reds. He has creativity and incision with his passing.
Napoli forward Jose Callejon is another option. The 33-year-old is set to be a free agent and he has been a big part of Napoli’s attack.
Paris Saint-Germain forward Edinson Cavani were linked with the move to Chelsea but the deal hasn’t been reached due to his contract demands. The winger could be very helpful for the Blues.
Borussia Dortmund playmaker Mario Gotze, 27, is set to be ready to leave on a free transfer. The player has the ability to play along the front line and show his versatility.
