Tancredi Palmeri: Chelsea made first bid for Dries Mertens

Chelsea made a £4.7million bid for Napoli forward Dries Mertens, according to Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri. The Blues look to bolster their attacking power after Tammy Abraham got injured and Olivier Giroud is set to leave the club. Mertens, 32, keen to become Napoli’s record goalscorer as he sists just four goals behind club legend Marek Hamsik on 122. If Mertens joins Chelsea, Olivier Giroud will join another Serie A side, Lazio. However, Chelsea face competition from Inter Milan. Mertens will be out of contract in the summer, as well as Giroud. Napoli could consider cashing in on the Belgian to avoid the risk of letting him go on a free transfer. Source- The Sun Join us on Telegram!
