Sweden boss responds to claims Victor Lindelof withdrew from  squad in protest

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof refused to join Sweden national team ahead of the international break. Sweden get their Euro-2020 qualification round underway with their first game against Romania on Saturday before heading to Norway on Tuesday. Lindelof’s absence from the squad was cited as being for personal reasons, put down to the fact his wife is expecting their first child at the start of April. However, reports in Sweden suggested he snubbed his national side as a result of best friend John Guidetti being left out by manager Janne Andersson. Andersson has strongly denied the claims.

"There has been little speculation as to why he made his decision," Andersson said. "Already yesterday I said that I have great respect and a great understanding of the decision. "I can strongly deny that it was because another player was taken out. "Had it been so, I would not have had respect or understanding of the decision."
