Opta's Supercomputer has predicted the Premier League's potential 2023/24 winner following the teams' latest performances.
At the beginning of the season, the supercomputer identified Manchester City as strong favorites to retain the Premier League title, predicting a win in 90.2% of its 10,000 season simulations. However, City's recent dip in form, with three draws and one loss in four games, has reduced their chances to less than 45%, although a recent victory against Luton Town has slightly boosted it to 47.8%.
New league leaders Liverpool have seen a significant rise in their title-winning chances, increasing from 9.3% to 31.5% after a run of three wins.
Liverpool's recent performances, while not entirely convincing, have contributed to their improved standing. Aston Villa, with a 4.1% chance, has also defied expectations, especially after their historic 15th consecutive home victory against Arsenal. The Gunners, previously in the title race, dropped to second place after their defeat at Villa Park, reducing their chances to 16.6%.
The supercomputer doesn't offer much hope to the chasing pack, with Tottenham having a 0.06% chance of winning the league and a more optimistic 13.3% chance of finishing in the top four. Newcastle have a slim 0.04% chance of winning the league but an 11.2% chance of securing a top-four finish.
In contrast, Manchester United, despite being ahead of Newcastle in the table, have just a 1.7% chance of finishing in the top four, below even Brighton (3%) in the supercomputer's estimation. Meanwhile, Chelsea face a minimal likelihood of securing a top-four finish in the Premier League, with just a 0.2% chance.
