Sir Alex Ferguson waited around for David de Gea after his penalty shootout miss against Villarreal in the Europa League final to console the goalkeeper.
United went behind in Gdansk on Wednesday night after Gerard Moreno’s first-half strike, though Edinson Cavani levelled the scores from close range in the second half.
According to
The Athletic, Sir Alex deliberately waited by the tunnel for De Gea and embraced the keeper when he eventually made his way over, with the two sharing a big hug.
United legend spoke to De Gea and consoled him and the pair then walked side-by-side down the tunnel back to United’s changing room.
It is also possible that might have been De Gea’s final appearance in a United shirt, with Dean Henderson edging ahead of his teammate in the battle for the number one shirt next season.
