Shocking comeback? Manchester United aim to reunite with former club star after his exit

Manchester United are reportedly exploring a surprising move to re-sign David de Gea on a short-term deal.

The Spaniard left Old Trafford at the end of the previous season after his contract with the Red Devils expired. In the summer, the 32-year-old was succeeded by André Onana, who arrived from Inter Milan.

However, the situation has taken an unexpected turn with the 27-year-old is set to represent Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations in January. This development has prompted reports suggesting that United is contemplating the idea of reacquiring De Gea to provide goalkeeping cover during Onana's absence.

The Mirror reports that the Premier League giants are now actively exploring the possibility of bringing back their former star as a short-term replacement.

David de Gea is currently without a club after the previous links to Bayern Munich and Inter Milan failed to materialize.
