Sergio Reguilon thinks Tottenham should be patient with Bryan Gil and give him the time he needs to settle into his new surroundings.
The 20-year-old, who moved to north London this summer, has proven an able impact substitute, impressing with his guile on the ball and his willingness to take players on.
And Reguilon, who played with Gil at Sevilla during the 2019/20 campaign, insisted that his compatriot is capable of being a key player for the side once he gets used to the demands of the Premier League.
The Spaniard told the
club’s matchday programme (as relayed by
Football.London):
“I played with him at Sevilla, and he is a fantastic guy.
“He’s very young though, so he’s going to need time to settle and get used to his new surroundings. But he is a fantastic professional.
“He has so much energy about him as well, and you can see that in the way he performs on the pitch.”
Spurs left-back also admitted the experience of playing in front of fans this season has been completely different to last campaign, reserving special praise for Tottenham’s away contingent.
Reguilon added: “In the dressing room last season, all the players were talking about was the fans.
“They were telling me about the amount of fans that would be going to away games, like Wolves the other week. I was like ‘okay’, I would listen to them, but I wanted to feel that sensation, the feeling of having the fans there, myself.
“I remember the game against Arsenal at home last season, we won 2-0, but only 2,000 fans could be there. I could feel a bit of sensation of what it would be like with fans in the stadium from that game.
“But, this year, when everything started to open, with all the fans and families able to come to the stadium, it’s now a completely different experience.
“It’s so important for us to have the fans close as the games as well as our family and friends. Then you can feel that atmosphere properly.”
