Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay has been forced to withdraw from the Scotland squad due to injury.
The 21-year-old played his first international match in the defeat against Costa Rica and now he will not be available for the game against Hungary , the Scotish FA confirmed.
Mourinho has regularly spoken highly of the midfielder.
Even after his 'worst performance' against Brighton in the FA Cup quarter-final last week, McTominay was praised by Mourinho.
"Scott played on his [Matic's] side, Scott played the worst match since he played with me in the first-team, but he is a Manchester United player for sure, because he's the player that made mistakes, passed the ball so bad tonight, lost so many passes.
"The manager travelled a long way to speak to me and I have to thank him for that," McTominay said.
"The conversation we had was relatively simple. I wanted to play for Scotland - and I always have done, since I was a young boy, so it was an incredibly proud moment when he did call me up."
