Manchester City will play Schalke in the UEFA Champions League round of 16. The two clubs have only locked horns on three occasions competitively-twice in 1970 and once in 2008. The only time City faced Schalke in the knockout stages of European competition was in the 1969-70 Cup Winners' Cup - with the Citizens knocking them out on route to winning their only major European trophy.
