Sadio Mane forced to wait to equal Liverpool record after goalless Leicester game

Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has missed out a significant record after failing to score against Leicester City on Boxing Day. The Senegal international could become the 14th player in the club's history to score on all seven days of the week. However, the 27-year-old will have the chance for the record again, when the Reds face Sheffield United in the new year. The previous goalscorers, that managed to reach the club record were Ian Rush, Steve McManaman, John Barnes, Robbie Fowler, Emile Heskey, Steven Gerrard, Michael Owen, John Arne Riise, Sami Hyypia, Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho and James Milner. Divock Origi became the most recent record addition when scoring during the club's 4-1 win over Norwich back in August. Mane has a huge role in the Liverpool squad, and ex-Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov believes the forward has all chances to be named Player of the Season. "Looking at the season so far, when it comes to players one that has stood out for me so far is Sadio Mane. “Mane has been unbelievable, the progress he has made, his performances in games, goals and assists, he has it all – everything is there for him and he is still just 27. He’s got amazing speed, stamina and balance – he can still develop and it was a fantastic achievement to come fourth in the Ballon d’Or rankings, I’m sure he is pleased and you can see it on the pitch. Every time he has that space to burst through the deference with the ball he does it with ease, he’s having an unbelievable season," he said.
