Sacked Barcelona coach breaks silence on Liverpool defeat in Champions League

Fomer Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde has opened up on Barcelona's Champions League defeat to Liverpool last season. After a 3 - 0 loss to the Catalan giants in the first leg, the Reds' 4 - 0 win over the rivals at Anfield secured their place in the Champions League final so that Jurgen Klopp's side could lift the trophy. Speaking on the dramatic defeat to Liverpool, Valverde said: "In Liverpool, they scored a goal we wanted to avoid once we started the match. One goal would have advanced us. They then scored two goals in a minute. These things happen. You always go on the side of the winner. In the away match against Liverpool, we suffered a lot but were able to win [at home] by three goals. Champions League is very complicated to win, Europa League, World Cup, Euro Cup...they are all tournaments that depend on one match or one situation. The league, however, is decided by what you do in the year. Liverpool is very important in the Premier League right now because they have not been beaten in a long time." The Reds will be on action for their Champions League clash against Atletico Madrid tomorrow night as they look to defend their title.
