Roger Federer has revealed three things that would be enough for him to retire from tennis.
Federer is two matches away from a third straight ATP final and will hope to beat Kevin Anderson on Thursday night to make the Miami Open semi-finals.
It seems that nothing will make him retire earlier than it’s expected, however, the 20-time Grand Slam champion told ESPN what would force him to stop playing.
“Probably. Probably right. I think it goes in combination, as well, if my family wouldn’t be happy then I wouldn’t be doing it.
“If my wife wasn’t happy, same. Then if I felt like I had too much pain in my body, that wouldn’t be fun anymore when I realise that the body isn’t allowing me to get to the level that I’m at right now.
“If I feel like I can’t win tournaments anymore, that’s another thing. And if I feel like I can’t beat the best anymore, that would be another one. So long as all the stars are aligned, you answered it perfectly.”
But Federer added: “We’re not thinking about retirement. Because, I feel like the more I think about it, the closer and closer I am to it. There’s no plans yet, there were talks about the Tokyo Olympics, but that’s not true.”
