Roger Federer explains the toughest aspect of switching to clay

Roger Federer has not played a competitive tennis tournament on clay since May 2016 but the Swiss did not deny that he may make a comeback on the surface in 2019. “It's just the way the points are constructed. “You feel like you hit a good shot but sometimes it can be the totally wrong shot because the guy's on the run, he slides, and he totally gets back into the rally. Sometimes you have to of course win a point not only once, but twice or three times. “The way you can actually counterpunch on clay is quite extraordinary, you know. I can also do it myself sometimes. And it's a lot of fun, but at the same time, it's quite hard to do it over and over again for both sides. “Some days it's extremely slow.' Federer also spoke about how it feels to compete in a unique location like at the Arthur Ashe Stadium at the US Open. He said, 'Yeah, I pretty much enjoyed it. It's always a dream for somebody to come to New York somehow because the city is so great. “I came here as a junior first time in '98. I loved it, you know. I thought, you know, I achieved everything I wanted; I made it to New York. I always played well, too, so I never really had these bad memories of playing bad here. “I've always, I think, won a couple of rounds. I always got a sense for – a feel for the city as well. So I never really disliked this event or this city.”
