Roger Federer coach reveals true feelings after Australian Open exit and gives an update on retirement plans

Roger Federer was disappointed to be sent home from the Australian Open after a shock defeat to Stefanos Tsitsipas, according to coach Severin Luthi. There were different reasons for the defeat, of course. “Tsitsipas played very well. He was cheeky, has a slightly different style than most. But it was also clear that Federer could have done a lot better. “Eventually take a break, for example. Zero out of 12 is certainly not normal. But it never really clicked this time.” Luthi also explained where Federer went wrong against the Greek ace. "From the outside one has had the feeling that Tsitsipas has nothing to lose,” he added. “Roger has played a little more controlled in comparison. Of course, he could no longer play like a 21-year-old. However, you have to try to get some of the boys back. Otherwise, you will no longer have the fire and should stop soon.” Meanwhile, Luthi hinted that Federer has no plans to retire because of a recent poor run of form. "If you knew he would stop at the end of the year, you could train differently. Less in the medium and long term,” he said. "And right now Roger is still training and planning for the medium and long term."
