Riyad Mahrez has claimed he has no interest in leaving Manchester City during this summer’s transfer window.
The 30-year-old was an important player for the Citizens during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring 14 times and contributing nine assists in 48 appearances in all competitions.
Recent reports suggested that Mahrez could leave City this summer with the club in need to sell some first-team players before pressing ahead with moves for Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.
But the Algerian has said that he does not want to leave the Premier League champions in the current market.
“What if I want to go higher? I do not see what is higher,” Mahrez told YouTube channel Oui Hustle. “To try another championship [elsewhere]? No. I really love England and English football is wonderful. I don’t want to leave. I still have goals to pursue here.
“When you see [Pep] Guardiola wants you, it’s flattering. The acclimatisation here was not easy, but our relationship today, everyone knows [is great].”
Mahrez has scored 39 goals and registered 37 assists in 142 appearances for City since arriving from Leicester City in July 2018.
