Rio Ferdinand thinks the Glazers will sell Manchester United after protests from fans forced Sunday’s game against Liverpool to be postponed. Ferdinand has voiced his support for the protest, arguing that, as a former player, he should be on the fans’ side.
He said: “I’ve got to be honest – I never thought I would say this or see this but I think the Glazers will sell now. It might not be immediately but I think they will sell because of the uproar.
“Everyone wants to do well in business and no one’s begrudging them making a pound note but, where they are now, and the amount of anger and emotion within these fans isn’t going away.
“I genuinely believe now that the Glazers will sell and say ‘you know what? We’ve had a good run at this, we’re going to make a huge profit, let’s just go – we don’t need this anymore, we’re on all of the news channels’.
“Before, they weren’t on CNN in their own country, but now this news is travelling and it’s travelling fast. The fans can’t get at the Glazers physically – and I don’t mean violently, but to get in their face and verbalise what they want in front of them – but now they’re able to do it through media channels properly because the news is travelling so fast. I think it’s a big issue for them and I think they will sell. For them, it’s better to sell now.”
