REVEALED: Why player refused Tottenham’s offer to extend contract

Fernando Llorente, who now plays for Napoli, was offered a contract extension but preferred to move to Serie A. His time at Tottenham was kind of complicated. Firstly, he was always being blocked by Harry Kane and was only getting a chance when the latter was either injured or rested. But also Spurs probably wouldn’t reach to the Champions League final last season if it wasn’t him as he scored in the match against Manchester City in the quarter-finals. According to Gazetta dello Sport,  Llorente was fed up after two years in Tottenham and refused Spurs’ “very reduced” offer to contract extension. The idea was to let Troy Parrott grow and eventually replace the Spanish forward as Kane’s backup. Tottenham might have offered him more money but both Llorente and his agent brother said “thanks, but no thanks”. And during this summer transfer window, the 34-year-old moved to Napoli.
