REVEALED: Mesut Ozil should thank one Manchester United payer for his lucrative contract

Former England striker Michael Owen believes Mesut Ozil should be thankful for Alexis Sanchez for his lucrative contract at Arsenal. Ozil penned a lucrative new deal last year to bring an end to speculation he could leave on a free transfer in the summer, while Sanchez moved to Manchester United in a deal that saw the Gunners land Henrikh Mkhitaryan. And since signing a new deal Ozil has been struggling to find consistency. The last match he was dropped was against BATE Borisov in the Europa League and Owen believes he should thank Sanchez for the lucrative wages he receives despite being dropped. “Ozil must be thinking every bed at night ‘thank God for Sanchez’ because they couldn’t at that point lose two players of that quality,” he said on BT Sport ahead of the clash with BATE. “Sanchez eventually left and Arsenal moved heaven and earth to keep Ozil, offering him double what he probably his worth in today’s market, so he’s got a right deal out of it. “Whether that’s enough in terms of if he is motivated by that, some people want to play every week and it’s all about the number of goals they score, we are all motivated by different things. “I think it’s been a real tricky situation with three players, I’ve mentioned Sanchez going, then Ozil and now Ramsey. The whole structure of wages has been broken.”
