Referee confirmed for Liverpool derby and Everton fans won’t like it

Martin Atkinson will referee the Merseyside Debry between Everton and Liverpool on Monday. The 48-year-old referee has a long history with Everton supporters after showing Jack Rodwell a red card for a tackle on Luis Suarez in the same fixtures in 2011. Atkinson further enraged Everton after allowing Manchester City’s goal to stand in the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg at the Etihad in 2016. Moreover, Liverpool could be crowned as Premier League champions in the game against Everton. Manchester City host Arsenal on Wednesday night before Burnley travel to the Etihad next Saturday. Defeat in both those fixtures would mean City can only reach 81 points. That would see Liverpool claim glory without playing, and a guard of honour by Everton at Goodison.
