Manchester City centre-back John Stones has not played any minute of football this season for his club.
The England international was a regular starter under Pep Guardiola in the Premier League winning campaign last season, forming an incredible partnership with Ruben Dias.
However, this season a number of factor caused his absence this term.
Stones returned to City camp late this season, as England reached to the Euro 2020 final in the summer, and Dias and Aymeric Laporte have already formed a good partnership.
The 27-year-old also suffered an injury while away building up his fitness with England, meaning that he missed the very same games after the September international break that Laporte did following his problems with Spain. After starting the season without him, Guardiola was never likely to bring the defender in for crucial games against Chelsea, PSG or Liverpool.
So now Stones heads off to England hoping to play his first competitive minutes in over a month.
On this situation Guardiola previously said:
“When John comes back, he will wait for his moment and he will show his quality, like he did last season.
“We want him to be fit, because we need him. We are in big trouble in many departments because we have many injuries and a lot of games so hopefully they can come back as soon as possible.”
