Real Madrid have hinted that Martin Odegaard could be allowed to rejoin Arsenal this summer. Odegaard joined the Gunners on a loan deal and his contribution to the club earned him an offer of a permanent deal. "We have a very clear and strong opinion on what we would like to do, but he’s not our player," Mikel Arteta said after the 2-0 win over Brighton. "We will have to discuss in the next few weeks what and respect first of all because he’s a Real Madrid player and have those communications. "We tried to make everything that we could to get Martin [Odegaard] performing for the team, which I think he’s done. He has adapted really well to our way of playing and to our football club. Hopefully, we have given him as well the hope and the feeling that it could be a good place for him." According to Football.london, if Gunners technical director Edu fails in his attempts to bring Odegaard back to north London, then it will be Emiliano Buendia who becomes the prime target with an offer being prepared for the £40m-rated playmaker. Real Madrid have announced that Luka Modric has extended his contract by a further year. "Luka Modric signed his contract renewal at Real Madrid City, alongside president Florentino Perez," a statement reads via the club's official website. "The Croatian midfielder will remain at our club until 30 June 2022. Following the signing, he was presented with a jersey with his name and the number 2022 on the back." Modric staying for another season doesn't necessarily mean that Odegaard will be put up for sale. But given there's not likely to be any change to Madrid's midfield options next season, it might be a sign that first-team football won't be guaranteed for the 22-year-old. In that case, Arsenal's chances of reaching an agreement with Los Blancos for Odegaard have been given a boost.
