Ahead of the 2024/25 season, Mikel Arteta's side have signed David Raya on a permanent deal.
Since his arrival at the Emirates Stadium, Raya has replaced Ramsdale as the starting goalkeeper for the Gunners. Despite rumours about Ramsdale's imminent exit from the club, Arteta's side decided to keep both, but Raya undoubtadely has a superior place in the squad.
Just two years ago, Ramsdale himself displaced Bernd Leno to become the first-choice goalkeeper. He concluded the impressive 2022/23 season by extending his contract for the long term in May.
Nonetheless, in the dynamic realm of football, remaining stagnant translates to falling behind, particularly when attempting to catch up with a team like Manchester City. With strong competition domestically, Arteta's side must seize opportunities in the market to maintain an advantage over their rivals – a role that Raya seems to be an ideal fit for.
It is highly likely that the Spanish international will continue being the Gunners' first-choice goalkeeper next season, too.
