Arsenal suffered a 2-1 defeat to Wolves on Tuesday and are looking to bounce from the defeat as they will face Aston Villa in an away Premier League game on Sunday, February 6.
Ahead of the game, the Gunners head coach Mikel Arteta gave a press conference where he spoke out on David Luiz's red card, Aston Villa as well as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Luiz received a red card at the end of the first half in the Gunners' 2-1 defeat to Wolves after he brought down Willian Jose when Jose was one-on-one with Bernd Leno. Meanwhile, Aubameyang returned to the squad after having missed Arsenal's games against Southampton and Manchester United due to personal issues.
The 31-year-old started the game on the bench against Wolves and came on at the 61st minute as he replaced Nicolas Pepe.
On Ryan: "He’s not been available to train yet and Alex is available so we will have a choice to make for the weekend.
On Luiz's red card: "I’m very hopeful. That’s why we put the appeal up because we discussed we went through all the images and we think that the red card should be overruled. That’s why we put the appeal.
On whether Pepe could be dropped for Aubameyang: "Well at the end they have to play the players that are in the best form. Everybody has to earn the right to play and participate in the games. That’s what everybody is doing. Pushing each other to play that level. You can see that the level has been raised because everybody is playing at their best and there’s still room for improvement, so everybody has to keep pushing."
On Aston Villa: "They’ve been fantastic through the season. They beat some top teams. They’ve been in a really strong run. And they beat us when we played here at home so we have to make sure that we go there and we win the game."
On whether Aubameyang could start: "Well he is available, he played a few minutes after 10 days of not doing much and hopefully in the next two days he feels good and he is available to contribute to the team."
On the transfer window: "If you see the amount of transactions that we've done in this window it's incredible. Credit to the club and Edu for the work he's done because it's not easy in one window to get that amount of things done. I know most of it was to get players out but it's still not an easy thing to do in this market."
On managing Tierney's injury: "No, it’s a different injury in this case. Kieran is a player that really pushes himself and he has to be able to perform physically at his best because he cannot hold himself. Even in training he can’t hold himself. We are trying to manage him in the best possible way and find every possibility to give him the best chance to be fit as soon as possible, and we are here to support him as much as we can."
